Finally they have yet another ability, plague, it’s an AOE, that does up to 300 damage over time to units hit (but will not kill it only reduces them to 1 hp). It’s pretty insane space control, Terran basically just has to leave that area. So Terran can only hit with the splash from tanks and firebats, or use Irradiate from Science Vessels (BCs could also Yamato). The thing is Zerg is making lings, lurkers, and ultras, all of those can attack under dark swarm Terran has zero units with a melee attack, not even SCVs count as melee in BW. Next Dark Swarm, you place an orange cloud on an area, units in the area cannot be hit by missile attacks. First consume, consume lets you eat a friendly unit and gain 50 energy, so you can just eat a ling that is only 25 minerals and not have to worry about energy. Anyway, if you don’t know, defilers have 3 abilities, all of which are broken. The problem is they are at the highest tech level, so you kind of expect that, also defilers are why Zerg can even play ZvT, without them, Zerg would lose almost every match. Muta micro is one of the hardest things in the game, but in theory, if they are used perfectly, they might be the most broken.ĭefilers: These are hard, because if you have them out with their upgrades, they are honestly probably the most broken unit. Then you also have moving shot, so in BW, normally units have to stop to attack, then there is a painful acceleration time to get the unit back to full speed, but with certain inputs, such as attacking within 22 degrees of the mutas’ facing direction or using hold position or patrol you can fire them, then immediately give a move command and preserve the units speed. The reason they can be microed is twofold, for starters, magic boxing, you can get the mutas to clump very tightly by grouping them with an overlord, allowing them to basically move and attack as 1 super muta that does 11 mutas’ worth of damage. Mutalisks: these are bit more tame on paper, but the combination of techniques players can use and the near infinite skill cap on the mutas allows pros to make these units look ridiculous. They dominate the early game, and the late game, with the only downside is they have just a mediocre mid game. But when lings have 3/3 and the insane cracklings upgrade in BW, they do just kill everything, easily one of the best units. However you are limited to selecting only 6 supply at a time (12 units, lings are 0.5 supply). Zerglings: these are just insanely good, lings in BW have a faster attack speed than cracklings in SC2, they are insane. It’s a beautiful game to play and watch, but let’s talk about the insanity of some of this shit! ![]() ![]() But every race has its broken things that make it work in the matchups. Brood War is balanced as far as the races are concerned. ![]()
